2019: Senator Gada Declares For Sokoto Governorship Race
Senator Jibril Bello Gada has declared to contest for the governorship position of Sokoto State in 2019 under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Giving reasons for his decision to contest against the incumbent governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Senator Gada said he has a four-point agenda that can bring back the state to the path of greatness. He added that he remained a tested and trusted leader. He promised that if he is elected governor by the people of the state, his four point targets will be to revive agriculture, education, facilitate local government reform and above all, encourage youths and sports development. Gada, who insisted that he is not seeking political office because of any personal gain, added that he is contented as the Sarkin Noma (King of Farmers) in the state because he is into large scale farming. LEADERSHIP recalls that Gada was a Senator between 1999-2003. He was also former Minster of Culture and Tourism. While urging the electorate to stop using weapon of any kind before, during and after elections, Senator Gada warned that election should never be seen as a do or die affairs, hence only God gives power. When asked if he is aware of the governorship zoning system that exist in the state, Gada said, zoning is not constitutional, adding that it is simply a gentleman’s arrangement by a party or political group to avoid friction. He said as far as Sokoto was concerned, anybody from any of the senatorial districts could contest the 2019 governorship election against Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
