FIFA WWC: Super Falcons clash with Banyana Banyana in Cyprus
Africa Champions Super Falcons of Nigeria will today clash with rivals Banyana Banyana of South Africa to decide who wins the ninth position of Cyprus Women’s Cup.
Nigeria finished third in group C after losing two games and winning one. Banyana Banyana finished at the bottom of group A with just a point. The match will be a replay of the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations where the Super Falcons needed extra time and a penalty shoot-out to subdue the South African women making their debut in the FIFA Women World Cup billed for June in France.
Speaking on her team’s showing so far in Cyprus, South Africa coach Desiree Ellis said: “We want to give players an opportunity and try play them in different positions. It helps us to have a better understanding of what players can offer. You could get injuries at the World Cup, so if you have not tried different things then you don’t have a plan A and B, or even C.
