Rave 91.7FM Foundation engages in advocacy and sensitization year round using the instrumentality of the mass media especially radio and social media. Awareness jingles, skits and programmes in English, Yoruba and Pidgin languages are packaged and produced year round, to influence narratives and speak to social, political, cultural and economic issues to effect positive change on these issues.
Some of the campaigns embarked upon in this regard include Female Genital Mutilation, Safe Driving, Domestic Violence, Lassa Fever, Tuberculosis, Teenage Pregnancy, Good Governance, Accountability amongst others.
One of the programmes conceptualized by the foundation is FRANKTALK. FRANKTALK, a socio-political talk show, is designed to enlighten the citizen and stimulate public discourse on diverse issues across the polity ranging from good governance and accountability to politics, political systems and economy. The programme features no holds barred interviews and debates with key stakeholders in the polity, allowing members of the public to join the conversation by call in to make ask questions and make their own observations.
Aside technocrats and experts, some of the key guests that have featured on the programme include INECs National Commissioner, Solomon Soyebi, INECs Administrative Secretary in Osun, Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Commissioner of Police, Police Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, Senators, Representatives and members of States Houses of Assembly.
Others include members of the Diplomatic community like, Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate, Darcy Zotter, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Laurie Beaufils.
During the last Osun West Senatorial Rerun election, FrankTalk featured debates/interviews amongst the aspirants and provided a platform for them to sell their plans to the people as well as for the citizens to assess them. Messages of peace, a violence free, fair and credible election were major campaigns embarked on before, during and after the polls.
An aggregation of the contributions of our listeners on FrankTalk through our feedback channels (Calls, Texts, WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook) determines the direction and theme of our Annual Colloquium/Public Discourse on trending issues in the polity.
ANNUAL COLLOQIUM/PUBLIC LECTURE AND DISCOURSE
The annual colloquium and Public Lecture is an extension of issues already featured on FrankTalk, determined to be critical and germane to the polity by the listeners 24th November, 2016 – Topic – Deepening Democracy Through Greater Youth Participation, delivered by Darcy Zotter, Public Affairs Chief at The US Consulate, Lagos.
Targeted at youths, the lecture was held at the Aurora Conference and Events Centre, Osogbo and was attended by about 1,400 people 80% of them youth drawn from across schools (97 secondary schools, higher institutions, youth organizations and clubs within Osun State)
The panel session was moderated by the National Chairman of the National Conscience Party, Dr Yunusa Tanko. Other members of the panel include, Mosunmola Umoru, Technical Adviser (Youth & Gender) to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deji Adeyanju, the Director, New Media of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamikole Omishore,the Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President, on New Media. Honourable Tunde Olatunji, member of the Osun State House of Assembly.
The choice of the topic was particularly important because of the critical role the youth demography plays and is expected to play in moving forward in our democratic journey.
24th November, 2017 – Topic – Nigerias Fight Against Corruption: The Facts, The Fallacies, The Antidotes delivered by activist and politician, distinguished Senator Shehu Sani, Kaduna Central. Legal luminary, former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Chief Wole Olanipekun chaired the lecture. Attendance was 1507, made up of youths drawn from institutions across the state, organizations, unions, political parties etc.
This topic was chosen to stir public consciousness on the corruption challenge towards galvanizing public support to fight it headlong.
22nd November, 2016 – Held simultaneously at Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government and Awo, Egbedore Local Government both in Osun state, assisted by members of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, amongst other health practitioners, as well as pharmaceutical stores across the state.
The beneficiaries enjoyed free medical tests, counseling and also got free drugs. At Gbongan, we attended to 621 people, majority of them old people while 337 people benefitted from the medical outreach at Awo, bringing the total number of people reached to 958.
Visit to Abiye Orphanage Home 23rd November, 2016 – Donated supplies and materials worth tens of thousands of naira to the children. Rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Ilobu road.
